Random Thoughts on Knitting

I’m taking a blogging course that started yesterday (Feb. 29th) and I’m pretty sure that most, if not all, of my blog posts in the next 6 weeks will come from that course.  Today our assignment is to write 25 random things about ourselves………..I’m turning that into writing random thoughts about what knitting has brought to me.

Can it be only 3 1/2 years ago that I began knitting in earnest?  Wow, so much has happened since then.  In the spirit of my assignment, I’m going to write what comes to mind as I think of it so here goes!

I’ve gone from a newbie to now offering technique demonstrations and knitting help at my favorite yarn shop, My Sister Knits in Fort Collins, CO.

Julie, owner of MSK, and I organized a knitting retreat last fall at The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO which was a huge hit and will become an annual event.  That was a dream come true indeed!

I went to ‘knitters’ Mecca’ which is the New York Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, NY – more commonly known as ‘Rhinebeck’ with a small group of wonderful people – another dream come true!

Because of where I live, I’ve been able to meet and learn from so many amazing designers and teachers at Fancy Tiger Crafts in Denver.

I’ve discovered I’m passionate about learning about wool and the animals it comes from and Deb Robson, who co-wrote the book on those animals, lives right here in town and (so many ‘ands’ – can you tell I’m excited?) we’ve spent time together and she taught me about washing fleece – I still shake my head in wonder when I think about actually doing that.  It was an experience that gave me a huge sense of accomplishment and pride in what I could achieve.

Knitting has brought me a whole new world of knowledge, friends and creativity that I cannot imagine doing without.

I could go on and on but those things I haven’t mentioned today will become future blog posts – keep reading!
